Celebrating original, local art
Artist of the Month
Juli Dorton
Juli Dorton is the Muncie Artists Guild’s Featured Artist of the Month for October 2026!
“As a new member of the Artists Guild, my first activity was as a Plein Air artist for the Garden Walk. This event provided wonderful subject matter for a painting.
My goal is to portray positive images of people and nature. I hope that my work brings happiness and appreciation of our world. People, places or objects that have meaning or history in my life are what I find most engaging. I enjoy realism and intricate work. It’s like putting a puzzle together, when all the pieces fit it is a joy.
Currently, I am working on panoramic scenes of Indiana farm ground. I am intrigued by the vastness of the land and sky. Capturing the variety of colors and shapes, and seasonal beauty that may be taken for granted in our natural surroundings.
Children’s Portraits are also a major subject for my work. Who doesn’t enjoy looking at a sweet child? Oil paint and colored pencil are my chosen mediums. I have also completed quite a few murals both individually and as a collaboration.
I have always been an artist. I studied at Ball State University where I earned a BS and MA in Art Education. I was an art teacher in the public schools of Indiana for 28 years. I honed my skills along with my students’ and found them to be an inspiring factor in my own work.”
